MASTERPIECES OF TRANSGRESSIONIST CINEMA

An ongoing e-book series analysing, examining and outlining the classics of adult cinema, from the pioneering works of the early 1970s to the latest in contemporary erotic genius!

First up is the movie that birthed transgressive film, separating explicit sexuality from the taint of “pornography.”  Reviled, banned and subject to legal proceedings, it would become the darkest, most critically appraised porn film of all time, making adult film legends out of both its actress and director.

Georgina Spelvin was born in the bowels of Lower Manhattan in 1972. She was 36 years old at the time – rather long in the tooth for a porn actress. The daughter of George Adversity Spelvin, the noted Shakespearean actor, and Stark Necessity, an inventive mother, she became the darling of Porn Chic with the release of Gerard Damiano’s epochal film, The Devil In Miss Jones.”

After Deep Throat legitimized the adult film as entertainment for a new, sophisticated and mature audience untroubled by religious moralism or Patriarchal social convention, The Devil in Miss Jones explored the thematic complexity, moral ambiguity and sexual fantasy possible only in a genre that, through a religious allegory that combined Catholicism and Jean-Paul Sartre, embraced sexual explicitness for a raw, penetrating and engulfing look at the human condition.
