Left out of the Comedies of Despair volumes, Retard was considered too bleak, despairing and pathologcally obscene to site alongside the remainder of the ironic, explicit porno-story series. Ivan Rehorek (aka Avalanche) was a former editor for Adelaide, South Australia's premier poetry collective, Friendly Street. Following the print release of his poetry work, A Rare & Vacant Hour, edited by the renowned Graham Rowlands, Avalanche turned to electronic resources.

Following his BA, Peach and his girlfriend visited China with the intention of teaching English. There they eschewed the tourist route and sought to discover what they could for themselves. A burgeoning writer, Peach felt inspired to make this one, brief chronicle of his experience: to share with others the joy and wonderment of travel.
